Smoothies!

Oops...I was so excited to drink my smoothie, I forgot to take a picture before it was all gone. I LOVE making smoothies and it all began because of this disease of mine. When I was attempting to gain back weight, I wanted to do so in a healthy way. If I was going to build my body back up basically from scratch, I figured I might as well build it up into something strong and clean. I was trying to get lots of protein to help build up muscles and needed different ways to get fruits, calcium, and supplements such as protein powder, omega 3,6,9 oil, and ground flax. Because I was prone to partial blockages quite frequently, smoothies also became my go to meal when liquids were the only thing I could tolerate. I have many smoothie combos but there is one tried true one that I always go back to. It utlizes 2 of my favorite ingredients.

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
1 cup Light Vanilla Silk soymilk
2-4tbs all natural peanut butter
2 tbs Organic Hemp Protein powder
1 frozen banana**
2 tsp raw agave nectar
combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth
**I keep a stockpile of frozen bananas in my freezer at all times. I cut the banana up before freezing to help the blending process later on. The frozen banana helps to thicken the smoothie up instead of having to use ice cream or frozen yogurt.
I have this amazing 2 cup blending contraption. It makes the perfect size and I drink out of the same cup that I blended in. Easy to make and easy to clean.

Today I popped one of my frozen pumpkin waffles into the toaster and spread some organic blueberry conserve on it to round out my very tasty, Saturday morning, post rainy walk meal.

Morning Goop

There are several things I couldn't imagine life without. Two of these things are natural peanut butter and bananas. Each are delightful in their own right and equally delightful when used in delicious combination. I often make banana peanut butter smoothies (recipe to come at a later date) and sometimes I mix the two into hot oatmeal. One day while shopping at in the natural food section of my grocery store, I came across this box of cereal:

I believe it was in the gluten free section. It's an all natural toasted rice cereal (kind of like rice krispies with more of a crunch). It even promises to stay crunchy in milk! Anyways, I'm always looking for new breakfast options and for some reason I got this idea to melt some peanut butter in a saucepan (added a little soymilk to help it along) and stir in mashed banana and a squirt of agave syrup. Once it was all mixed and of a pretty even consistency I took it off the heat.

I think I stirred in about 1/2 cup of Nutty Rice cereal so that it's all coated. I plopped in in a bowl and ate it up. It almost seemed like if I were to let it cool of and put in the fridge, it would be like a pb rice krispie treat (albeit a much healthier version).
